Since our founding in 1877,
we have been offering a selection of the finest teas from the Yamashiro area of the Uji and Kizu rivers after carefully processing them using traditional methods.
During the Muromachi period (1336–1573), Shogun Ashikaga recognized the quality of the teas from Uji,
establishing a tea garden in the village later known as the Uji Shichimeien.
Of the original seven fields in the garden, only the Okunoyama field, where we cultivate our teas, is still in existence.
As creators, craftsmen, and connoisseurs who are involved in all aspects of Uji tea in the pursuit of bringing it to consumers, we are proud of what we can offer.

Our flagship matcha product, Narino, is a new variety of tea born from the Okunoyama field,
one that has been around since the Muromachi Period (around 600 years ago).
In 2020, our Premium Narino product won a gold medal at a Japanese tea competition held in Paris.

This variety’s strong sweetness is its defining characteristic,
and it has been shown to have nearly twice as much theanine, a source of umami, as other matcha varieties.
With such a strong umami flavor, this tea can be enjoyed alone, without sweets, and has a full-bodied aroma and rich taste hard to find in other varieties.
We hope that you can enjoy this exclusive matcha, one that is only produced by us.

Distributor: Horii Shichimeien

Horii Shichimeien is one of the few remaining Uji tea specialist that grows cultivates tea in their own fields.
Preserving the traditions of Uji tea, they devote themselves day-by-day to the delivery of high quality teas, from matcha and gyokuro, to sencha and everyday teas.
