When Japanese travel to other countries, one frequently commented on surprise is that bottled green teas sold at convenience stores or supermarkets are sweetened.
Even at Japanese or sushi restaurants, sugar is provided at the table for guests to add to their tea.

For those who have only tried sweetened green tea, we would like to invite you to try real, Japanese green tea at least once.
This bottled tea is made from 100% Uji tea leaves and is produced from hand selected tea leaves by the Kyoto Tea Cooperative Association, an organization of 140 tea distributors and processors in Kyoto.
The history of Uji tea is a lengthy one, beginning during the Kamakura period and then becoming popular during the Muromachi period, when the Ashikaga shoganate opened several tea gardens in the city.
The length of Uji tea’s history means that it is one of the most popular variety of teas in Japan. For this bottled tea, a blend of genuine Uji sencha and tencha were selected, making the entire product made-in-Kyoto. Sencha is produced by steaming the tea leaves to stop the oxidation process, then drying and rubbing them over several stages.
Tencha is the raw materials used in matcha, before it is ground into a powder. Like sencha, the leaves are steamed, but in this case, they are dried without any rubbing.
It has a fresh, green aroma, and refined, naturally sweet taste. Through blending of these two types of tea leaves, they were able to create a full-flavored, deep taste with a refreshing aroma.

In addition to Japanese food lovers, we also recommend this bottled tea for its unique, limited-edition design, taken from a Tale of Genji scroll. The Tale of Genji, written by Murasaki Shikibu in the early 11th Century, is a long tale depicting the aristocratic society of the Heian Period, and includes themes of love, glory and downfall, political desires and power struggles. Said to be the world’s oldest love story, it has been translated into more than 20 languages and read around the world. With a label depicting scenes from this classic of Japanese literature, this bottled tea makes a perfect souvenir. For those who love Japanese culture, the bottle is worth saving after finishing the tea!
